Sarla recites Mahalaxmi Stuti for Diwali when we perform Laxmi Poojan during the four days of Diwali Festival. When Laxmi, Durga and Saraswati unite they become one and this avatar is known as Mahalaxmi. When a person prays to Mahalaxmi,Saraswati gives good wisdom which enables the person to earn wealth in the right manner. Because knowledge and wealth are both good, Durga protects that person against injustice. During the four days of Diwali, i.e.Vaghbaras, Dhanteras, Kalichowdas and Diwali we make sweets, do rangoli with powder colors, dress festively and go to the temple. The day of Diwali is celebrated by lighting lamps, bursting fire crackers and pooja. When I was in India I painted a very large rangoli at the entrance of our home and placed lighted lamps there. I continue to do that here but now my rangoli is painted on the computer.I place it before God and also light lamps. Diwali is also the day Lord Rama conquered and vanquished Ravana to free Sita from captivity. The day after Diwali is our Hindu New Year and it is celebrated by visiting the Mahalaxmi Temple in Bombay early in the morning to beat the crowds.A photo of the temple is placed in this video together with the photo of Laxmi, Saraswati and Durga. We visit friends and family and sweets are a big part of the entire festival. Two years back my son wrote a book on Diwali called "Diwali A Festival of Lights" it is a published book and more can be read on the web. Head of household has the privilege of passing out cash favors to all the family members who take his/ hers blessings as well.
